FREQUENTLY ASKED
Questions, answered.
What SEQUEN is, how it measures your skin, why it is different, and how your data is handled. Straight answers, no beauty talk.
The basics
What is SEQUEN?
SEQUEN is a skin intelligence platform. It turns a standardized photo of your skin into clinical-grade scores, tracks how those scores change over time, and connects the changes to your routine, cycle, ingredients, and environment. It is built to show you what is actually moving your skin, not to sell you a look.
Is this a beauty app or a glow-up app?
No. SEQUEN does not score attractiveness, rate your features, or chase an ideal. There is no beauty filter and no target face. It observes skin conditions, acne, redness, pigmentation, texture, barrier, and aging, the way a clinical scale does, and tracks them against your own baseline. Skin health, measured. Not looks, judged.
Is SEQUEN a medical device? Does it diagnose me?
No. SEQUEN is an observational tracking tool, not a medical device, and it does not diagnose, treat, or cure anything. Its scores and insights are informational, generated in part by AI, and are not a substitute for professional care. It is designed to supplement your dermatologist, not replace them.
Who is SEQUEN for?
Anyone who wants to understand their skin with data instead of guesswork. People managing acne, pigmentation, or the signs of aging. People whose skin shifts with their cycle or hormones. And anyone tired of spending on products with no way to know which ones worked.
When can I get it?
SEQUEN is in a private founding-member beta on TestFlight now, with a public App Store launch in July 2026. Join the waitlist at sequen.io to claim founding access before it closes.
How it works
How does the skin scoring work?
You take a guided, standardized photo. SEQUEN's AI scores six conditions, acne, redness, pigmentation, texture, barrier, and aging, and anchors them to the scales dermatologists use in trials: IGA, Glogau, CEA, and mMASI. Every scan is compared to your own baseline, so you see change, not just a number.
What is standardized capture, and why does it matter?
Most skin photos are taken in different light, at different angles, on different days, which makes them impossible to compare. SEQUEN guides you to the same framing and lighting every time. Consistent input is what makes the scores comparable across weeks and months. It is the difference between a data point and a selfie.
Does it work on all skin tones?
Yes, and this is foundational, not an afterthought. SEQUEN is calibrated across Fitzpatrick I to VI. Most skin tools are trained on lighter skin and lose accuracy on deeper tones. SEQUEN is built so your scores hold on your skin, not a stand-in for it.
Does it track my cycle and hormones?
If you choose to. SEQUEN can connect skin changes to your menstrual cycle, and to perimenopause, menopause, HRT, or TRT. Your skin runs on your hormones, and SEQUEN is built to show that link.
Can it read my product ingredients?
Yes. Scan any product label and SEQUEN reads the full ingredient list, checks it against molecular data, and flags things like photosensitivity, synthetic polymers, and ingredient conflicts.
Does it connect to Apple Health or Oura?
Optionally. You can connect Apple HealthKit and Oura so SEQUEN can factor sleep, recovery, and body temperature into your skin patterns. You approve exactly what it can access, and that data is never used for advertising.
Why not just use something else
Can't I just ask ChatGPT or use an AI photo tool?
A general AI can guess about a single photo, but it cannot do the three things that make SEQUEN work. It cannot capture your skin the same way twice, so nothing is comparable over time. It does not anchor to clinical scales, so the output is generic. And it has no memory of your skin, no baseline, no trend, no record you own. SEQUEN is standardized capture, clinical scoring, and a longitudinal history of your skin, built to answer what is changing, which a one-off answer never can.
How is this different from other skin-scanning apps?
Most skin scanners score a single moment to sell you a product, and the score disappears. SEQUEN keeps the record. It is brand-neutral, clinically anchored, longitudinal, and owned by you. The value is not the score today. It is the line over six months.
Trust and your data
Will tracking my skin make me obsessive?
SEQUEN is built to do the opposite. It is a calm, observational tool, not a daily verdict. There is no ideal, no comparison to other people, and no score of your worth. You track on a gentle cadence and read change against your own baseline. The point is clarity, so you can stop guessing, not more anxiety.
Does SEQUEN score how attractive I am?
No, never. SEQUEN does not measure beauty, symmetry, or facial features, and it never will. It observes skin conditions only. If a feature ever sounds like it is rating your looks, it does not belong in SEQUEN.
Who can see my photos and data?
Only you. Your photos and health data are stored in per-user isolated storage with strict access controls, and access to sensitive data is logged. When you request an analysis, your photo is sent securely to our AI provider to generate a result and is not used to train their models.
Do you sell my data or use it for advertising?
No. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your health data or photos for advertising, ever.
Can I export or delete my data?
Yes. You can export your data and delete your account and its data from inside the app, at any time. Your record is yours.
What privacy standard do you follow?
We handle personal information in line with PIPEDA and, where it applies, the GDPR. The full detail is in our app privacy policy at sequen.io/app-privacy.
Getting started
What phone do I need?
SEQUEN is an iPhone app, delivered through TestFlight during the founding beta and through the App Store at launch. It uses the iPhone's depth-sensing camera to keep your capture consistent.
Is there an Android version?
Not yet. iOS comes first. Android is on the roadmap after launch.
What does it cost?
There is a free tier for core tracking and standardized capture, and a Pro tier for AI scoring, correlation insights, and clinical PDF reports. Founding members lock the lowest rate SEQUEN will ever offer, and keep it for as long as they stay subscribed.
Do I need a dermatologist to use it?
No. SEQUEN works on its own, and it is also built to work alongside professional care. You can export a clinical PDF report from your own data to share with your dermatologist.
